Shine on Crazy Billboards!

Shine on crazy billboards!
Brands are doing all that they can to gain visibility- so much so, that Mumbai’s skyline is now giving way to Sachin and Mr. Bachchan smiling down at you from the skies.
Every time you venture out, you’ll see Bigg Boss glaring at you, while his son asks you to “walk while you talk”. SRK tries to sell you a wish! However, in doing so, they forget the damage they are causing to the environment.
Each hoarding in Mumbai has around 3 to 6 halogen lights, each consuming a large amount of electricity. Load shedding, especially in the suburbs, has become a norm in Mumbai. Is such wasteful consumption of electricity for outdoor advertisement really needed?
Around 20 lakh homes in Thane, Mulund, Virar, Vashi and Navi Mumbai are experiencing nearly 6-hours of load-shedding each day.
Farmers of Maharashtra have been experiencing load-shedding for eight hours a day.
We have the RTI, we have NGOs, and all the help that we may need to fight this menace. But as citizens of Mumbai are really doing anything about this?
Take a walk down any road post midnight, and you will see big shops with hugely illuminated hoardings on all night. The BEST too has joined in this madness – bus stops are lit even when the buses don’t function at night.
What’s worse is that hospitals and other such important institutions have to be left on the mercy of generators. But the billboards shine on!
Another example of Mumbai’s ‘chalta hai’ attitude…

Well done!
Linking Road is full of such brands that waste our electricity.
Its pathetic that some ppl have to go without electricity because of these billboards.
Its a good article…
Nice!!
I really din’t look at this this way. But what you are saying is definitely correct.
High time we put things into perspective
Thanks Kruti.
